How to deep clean makeup brushes

Good afternoon readers! I've been receiving a lot of emails lately asking how to clean makeup brushes. I only know how to do some deep cleaning not really the basic, but for all of you girls that use your make up brushes and don't clean them until they turn into a dark nasty color here's some tips:

  • Gather your materials:
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil [EVOO]
  • Your dirty brushes
  • Paper towel/s
  • 1 towel
After you have gathered all your materials, make sure you are by a sink, it can be anywhere: the kitchen sink, your bathroom, anywhere that has lukewarm running water. This cleaning should only be done ONCE A WEEK
  1. Grab your dirty brush [I recommend you do one at a time], a paper towel and some EVOO.
  2. Put some EVOO on the paper towel; a nice amount would be nice.
  3. Grab your dirty brush and rub it into the paper towel in circles, you will start noticing your makeup coming off of the brush.
  4. Run some lukewarm water and rinse off the EVOO; feel free to use as much EVOO on the paper towel as you progress.
  5. Do the same thing with the other brushes until all of them are clean

Some tips or hints you should know:
  • You should only do this deep cleaning ONCE A WEEK
  • When your done cleaning your brushes make sure you place them ON TOP of an elevated surface [Like a towel] Only the tips of the brushes should be hanging off the towel
  • DO NOT get water INSIDE the brush or else it will rust and it will get all nasty.
  • Synthetic Brushes used for foundation or concealer need to be cleaned EVERY week
  • Sable Brushes SHOULD be cleaned ONCE or TWICE a month depending on your usage
  • Sable Brushes can take hours to dry and it's best if you air dry them overnight
  • If you don't clean your makeup brushes you can get bacteria into your makeup bag or onto your face: Irritation and pimples may occur
